Curriculum

The FGCC Curriculum offers 3 study focuses: Core courses (compulsory), Additional requirement courses (some compulsory) and Elective courses. First year curriculums are aimed towards building up the students’ language modules, and complimented with additional courses and elective courses. Second year courses focus on more specialized subject learning with a strong language element. All students at the start of the academic year take English placement examinations. The students are given personal guidance on choosing a curriculum that suits their skills and motivations.

Students may choose to take additional elective courses outside of the 70 credits required for graduation. A full-time student is defined as a student carrying twelve to fifteen (12-15) units of work per semester in order to make normal progress towards the Certificate and/or transfer requirements. Students desiring to take an overload – more than 18 units but less than 22 – must have a counselor’s approval.
